I am Assistant Principal responsible for Inclusion and one of the Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENCo). Within my role I aim to ensure that our students receive the best support possible to help them overcome any barriers they may face socially, emotionally and academically.

In addition, I am also responsible for the development of teaching and learning, with a particular focus on inclusion and SEND specific professional development so that we are able to deliver Quality First Teaching for all students across the academy.

Encompassed within this, I manage a fully committed team of Learning Support Assistants (LSA’s). The team are passionate about working with our students both within the classroom and by providing intervention for small groups of students who may benefit from additional support.

Another exciting focus of mine is the continued development of our rewards system. It is my aim to ensure that every student is recognised for all that they do and that we reward at all levels. At Iceni Academy students are able to collect positive points on G4S (you can track their progress too!) with these leading to rewards. Awards include Student of the Week, weekly VIP passes and breakfast/lunch with the Principal to name a few. Furthermore, through our ‘Points for Prizes’ initiative, students can also trade up their points for items such as footballs, stationary and time in the onsite Youth Club – The Hive, plus many more.

The development of Social, Moral, Spiritual, Cultural (SMSC) and the British Values education our students receive across the academy is also an area of responsibility. Our aim is to ensure that our students leave us at the end of Year 11 as well rounded individuals, able to successfully contribute to society in modern Britain and beyond.

The Mental Health of our students is very important to us with the ultimate aim being that our students experience the benefits of having a positive mental attitude. With this in mind, I work along staff to develop our knowledge and understanding of the students and ways in which we are able to support them, providing strategies to help them move forward successfully.
