Form time is a crucial part of the academy day, giving students the opportunity to work with their form tutors on a range of topics. Each week, students take part in four activities.

Assembly

In assembly, students explore some of the big ideas facing society, learn about important cultural and historical events and share in celebrating people in our academy community. The assembly rota allows students to learn from a range of colleagues and external speakers, expanding their knowledge and understanding of our fundamental British Values, and build upon their learning from PSHE and RSHE lessons. Students in Key Stage Four also have the opportunity to hear from a range of post-16 education providers, ensuring they are informed about their choices once they leave Iceni Academy.

Register and Read

Each week, students engage with a real-world, current affairs text which closely links to a fundamental British Value. Students are able to explore the big ideas presented in this article and debate their views on the topic at hand. ‘Register and Read’ also allows students to learn a range of challenging and useful vocabulary.

Reading

At Iceni Academy, we are proud of the Iceni Canon. This represents the fourteen books all students will read, for pleasure, as part of the form time curriculum. The chosen texts are drawn from a range of time periods, genres and authors, introducing our students to some of the best literature in English from a diverse range of authors. Two form time periods each week are dedicated to reading books from the canon, allowing students to engage with the themes, ideas, characters and stories of our chosen texts.

ICENI Day

Everything we do at Iceni Academy is built upon on Iceni Foundations. These guide us in the decisions we make, and once a week, students have the opportunity to consider one of our Foundations in more detail through discussion, videos and the sharing of experiences. Each week, students are set a small nudge task to help them embody the Iceni Foundations.

Weekly Quiz

The quiz of the week allows students to compete between form groups, answering multiple choice questions about current affairs. This helps students learn more about the world around them – as well as foster a sense of teamwork in their form group!

Year 11 Knowledge Blasts

At the start of Year 11, students explore ICENI Day activities alongside revision and wellbeing sessions, aimed at supporting them to excel in their GCSE studies.

Now the GCSEs are closer, students are additionally undertaking English and maths knowledge blasts during form time to help them further prepare for their exams.
