Iceni Academy has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, pledging it’s long-term commitment to the Armed Forces community.
The Armed Forces Covenant was introduced to ensure members of the armed forces community have the same access to services, as any other citizen.
Support is provided in a number of areas including housing, education, healthcare, finance and new employment.
The Covenant is a promise to the nation to ensure that those who serve or who served previously in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
Principal Stephen Plume said: “Our academy is committed to supporting Armed Forces personnel through our Covenant pledges.”
The document was co-signed by Lt Colonel Paul Walkley and Principal Stephen Plume at The Queen Elizabeth Academy. At the same time Principals from all 22 schools who make up Academy Transformation Trust signed the covenant.
Iceni Academy, formerly Methwold High School, was opened by Lieutenant Colonel Sir Bartle Edwards in April 1958. The opening of the swimming pool at the school, a few years later, included the traditional ceremony of the senior students throwing the headmaster in to the pool.
The Academy is growing next year with an influx of over 12% more students and any prospective parents are invited to the open evening on the 25thof September 2019 where they can learn more about the ambitious plans for Iceni for the next few years.
